Gadget Mount
Questions:
What bikes do they fit?
Any bike that has a Big Mak (BMA) Tank Bag installed.
However, external factors start to intrude if the front of the bag
is over XXXX tall in front. This will make the whole assembly
tall enough to hit the windscreen, dash, or gauges on many
bikes.
What good is it if the mounting points are all hidden in frontof the bag?
This product is meant to be used in conjunction with RAM tm
brand mounting systems, which allow you to assemble their modular
components into a stalk that bolts onto this gadget mount, and
holds your gadget in a direction and at a height that is
customizable, thanks to their clever, flexible design. This
means that you choose a RAM base, arm and gadget holder, screw the
base onto our product wherever it works, and assemble it onto the
base, adjusting the angle of the arm and holder to suit you.
The arm will elevate your gadget above the tank bag, so you can
access it.
What is it made of?
Aluminum sheet, .090" thick. It is powdercoated a deep
gloss black.
Will the gadget mount substitute for the platen?
Yes. It can screw on in place of the platen, and will
support the tank bag at least as well as the BMA plastic
platen. However, there are a few drawbacks. First, it
is metal, and with the tankbag removed, it can be forced into
contact with your tank, just like the plastic one. Being
metal, it would scratch the paint if that happened. Second
drawback is that your gadgets would stay on the bike when you
remove the tankbag, so there is a reduction in convenient
security.
Will the gadget mount help reinforce the platen?
Yes. It more than doubles the stiffness of the support for
the rear part of the bag. Leaning on it will still put it in
contact with the tank, though, in many applications.
What RAM products will attach cleanly to the gadget mount?
The RAM mounts it was designed to fit are: RAM-B-252,
RAM-B-202W, RAM-B-349. With some flatwashers, you can also
use a RAM-B-272.
What RAM products will complete the setup?
Choose one of their 1" ball arms, in the length that you need,
and one of their 1" ball gadget mounts, as appropriate for your
gadget.
Will my gadgets come off with the tank bag when I remove it?
Yes, unless you screwed the mount down as a platen. You
only have to unplug the wires connecting the tank bag to the rest
of the bike, and the gadget mount will stay in the mounting pocket
under the bag, even as you slide the bag off the platen. By
re-attaching the velcro strap after removing the bag, the gadget
mount will remain securely attached to the bag.
Is any mounting hardware included?
Six screw and locknut pairs, suitable to mount their two and
four-bolt flanges, are included in the kit. If used in place
of a BMA Platen, the original BMA hardware does nicely.
